Indications

When to use i-Brush 1

Designed for non-surgical or minimally invasive mechanical decontamination of infected implant surfaces — particularly in narrow or deep defect areas where access with conventional instruments is limited.

Non-Surgical Peri-implantitis Treatment — Mechanical decontamination of the infected implant surface without flap elevation, suited to early-stage peri-implantitis where bone loss is limited and non-surgical intervention is appropriate.
Implant Thread Debridement (1–2 Threads) — Targeted mechanical debridement of the coronal implant surface at the 1–2 exposed thread level, removing contamination and granulation tissue while preserving the underlying rough SLA surface.
Narrow or Deep Defect Access — The flexible stem and narrow profile allow access to confined inter-thread spaces and narrow defect geometries where round brushes or curettes cannot achieve complete coverage.
Pre-GBR Surface Preparation — Used in conjunction with surgical debridement to prepare the implant surface prior to guided bone regeneration, ensuring a clean SLA surface for graft integration and re-osseointegration.

Getting the most from i-Brush 1

Practical guidance for effective non-surgical implant surface decontamination.

Use with copious irrigation throughout the procedure. Maintain continuous saline or sterile water irrigation during i-Brush application. Dry use at operating speed generates heat at the implant surface and risks thermal injury to the surrounding peri-implant tissues and bone crest.

Three minutes of decontamination time is sufficient. The animal study demonstrated complete removal of contamination and infection from the SLA surface after 3 minutes of i-Brush use — extended application beyond this is not necessary and may generate unnecessary heat at the thread surface.

Use i-Brush 1 where R-Brush cannot reach. In surgical cases where both tools are used, apply R-Brush first to address the circumferential thread surface, then follow with i-Brush 1 in the narrow inter-thread spaces and deeper non-circumferential defect areas that the round brush cannot access uniformly.

Integrate into a comprehensive peri-implantitis protocol. Mechanical decontamination with i-Brush 1 removes infected tissue and biofilm from the implant surface, but optimal outcomes are supported by appropriate chemical decontamination, guided bone regeneration where indicated, and sustained peri-implant maintenance to prevent recurrence.

Single patient use — do not resterilise or reuse. i-Brush 1 is a single-use disposable device. Reuse risks cross-contamination between patients and bristle fatigue that reduces decontamination efficacy. Discard after each patient procedure.
