GLYCOLON® is a short-term resorbable monofilament surgical suture made from a poly(glycolic acid-co-ε-caprolactone) copolymer. Its smooth monofilament structure gives excellent handling and tissue passage with no capillary wicking, high tensile strength, and reliable knot security — supporting the wound through the early healing window before being fully resorbed, with no removal visit required.

Monofilament — no wicking — The smooth monofilament surface prevents capillary wicking along the thread, with no additional surface coating and no sawing action through tissue.

Clinical Tips

Getting the most from GLYCOLON®

Practical guidance for reliable handling and closure.

Hold the needle about three-quarters back from the tip. Do not clamp at the swage (the needle-suture junction) — clamping there can weaken both the needle and the suture.

Straighten the suture gently. After removing it from the pack, straighten the thread gently — do not rub it or pull it quickly, and do not hold the needle and stretch the suture.

Match the needle length to the site. The reverse-cutting point gives controlled penetration of firm oral mucosa across the range. Choose a shorter needle (DSM11/DSM13, 11–13 mm) for fine anterior or delicate mucosal work, and a longer needle (DS18/HS26, 18–26 mm) for a wider bite on posterior sites or thicker flaps.

Choose the colour for the site. Violet gives good visibility against oral mucosa for accurate suturing and removal-free follow-up; undyed is available where a less conspicuous suture is preferred.

Plan around the short strength profile. GLYCOLON® is a short-term resorbable that loses tensile strength within roughly the first week. Select it for wounds needing only early support — not for sites requiring prolonged suture retention.
