ACM is suited to any procedure where autogenous bone is needed as a primary graft material or as an osteoinductive supplement to a bone substitute — harvested directly from the mandibular molar or incisor region at the time of surgery.

Getting the most from ACM

Practical guidance for efficient autogenous bone collection and graft handling.

Start with saline irrigation at 300 rpm. Position the ACM drill on the cortical surface of the donor site and apply gentle pressure with continuous saline irrigation at 300 rpm. Irrigation is critical during initial drilling to prevent heat generation at the cortical surface and to maintain the viability of collected bone cells. Move to 80 rpm without irrigation only once you are fully familiar with the system's behaviour.

Keep 3–4mm depth in mind — the stopper is your limit, not your target. The spring-type stopper prevents penetration beyond 4mm, but the ideal harvest depth for cortical bone chips is typically in the 1–3mm range. Use the stopper as a safety backstop rather than the drilling goal — consistent, light pressure in multiple passes across the cortical surface collects more uniform chip sizes than a single deep pass to the stopper limit.

Collect from adjacent cortical bone — no separate incision needed. The mandibular molar region and incisor cortex provide reliable access to cortical bone through the same surgical field already open for the procedure. Avoid the retromolar pad, inferior alveolar nerve vicinity, and areas where the cortical plate is thin — confirm bone thickness radiographically before selecting the donor site.

Transfer chips promptly — keep them moist. Once the stopper chamber is full, transfer the collected bone chips to a sterile dish and keep covered with saline-dampened gauze. Place the autograft at the recipient site as quickly as possible — extended exposure time outside the body reduces bone cell viability. Mix with blood or bone substitute immediately before placement if using a combined graft protocol.

Discard the stopper after each patient — resterilise the drill. The stopper is a single-use component supplied pre-sterilised and must be discarded after each patient procedure. The ACM drill is reusable for up to 7 sterilisation cycles — track the use count per drill and discard once the limit is reached. Inspect the drill lock mechanism before each use to confirm secure stopper engagement. If the lock shows signs of wear, replace the instrument.
⚠ Clinical Notice: ACM is intended for use by trained dental surgeons and implantologists. The operator should be a dental specialist who has acquired the required technical skill. The drill must be cleaned and sterilised prior to reuse; the sterilisation condition must be guaranteed. The stopper is single use — discard after each patient. Do not use on patients with malignant tumours, radiation history, uncontrolled systemic disease, coagulation disorders, titanium allergy, or unrealistic expectations for treatment.
