When to use the FR Kit

Designed for implant removal in a wide range of clinical scenarios — from early failure through to fully osseointegrated or fractured fixtures.

Failed Osseointegrated Implants — Removes fully integrated fixtures using controlled counter-torque without requiring a trephine drill, preserving the surrounding bone envelope.
Fractured Implants — Applicable to fractured fixtures where a screw hole remains accessible, enabling retrieval without additional surgical trauma to adjacent tissue.
Immediate Re-implantation Sites — Bone thread condition is preserved post-removal, enabling implant placement and GBR at the same surgical visit.
Ill-positioned Implants — Allows removal and replacement of implants placed in an unsuitable angulation or position prior to prosthetic loading.
Any Screw-Hole Implant System — Compatible with implants of any brand or system, provided a screw-hole is accessible. Multiple Fixture Remover Screw sizes cover M1.4 through M2.5 and 1-72UNF connections.

Technique Guide

Four-step removal protocol

A standardised sequence that applies controlled clamping force to reverse-torque the implant body — without rotary cutting instruments.

Identify the failed implant and select the correct Fixture Remover Screw (FRS). Match the FRS to the implant's internal connection size (M1.4, M1.6, M1.8, M2.0, M2.5, or 1-72UNF). Insert the FRS fully — up to the reference line on the screw — to prevent screw fracture during tightening.

Connect the FRS to the implant and tighten clockwise (right turn) to recommended torque. Use the Hex Driver with a torque wrench. Recommended torque is 60 Ncm for M1.4, and 80 Ncm for all other screw sizes. Less than 80 Ncm is the target for most cases.

Thread the Fixture Remover (FR) onto the FRS counterclockwise (left turn) and tighten with a torque wrench. This engages the clamping mechanism — the FR body grips the implant platform and begins applying counter-torque. Continue tightening up to the maximum torque for the selected combination (see compatibility table).

Continue counter-torque application with copious irrigation until the implant is released. The implant unscrews from the site without bone cutting. Assess the socket immediately — if thread condition is favourable, re-implantation and GBR can proceed at the same visit.

Getting the most from your FR Kit

Practical guidance for safe, predictable implant removal and site management.

Insert the FRS to the reference line before tightening. The Fixture Remover Screw must be fully seated — up to the marked line — before torque is applied. Partial insertion concentrates stress at the screw neck and is the most common cause of FRS fracture. Confirm full seating visually before engaging the Hex Driver.

Match the Fixture Remover diameter to the implant platform. Using a Narrow FR on a Wide-platform implant will not achieve adequate clamping force. Refer to the torque compatibility table to confirm FR model selection before surgery — the correct combination is essential to reaching the counter-torque needed for release.

Maintain copious irrigation throughout counter-torque application. The reverse-torque process generates friction at the implant–bone interface. Continuous saline irrigation controls temperature, protects the remaining bone, and supports site viability for immediate re-implantation.

Assess thread condition immediately after removal. When bone thread condition is favourable, re-implantation and GBR can proceed at the same surgical visit. If thread condition is compromised, allow healing and plan re-entry — forced immediate placement into a damaged socket risks repeat failure.

Sterilise all reusable instruments between cases. The Fixture Remover, Hex Driver, and Torque Wrench are all reusable. Follow standard autoclave protocols per AS/NZS sterilisation guidelines and inspect each instrument for wear before use — deformed threads or damaged hex interfaces should be replaced before they are returned to clinical use.
⚠ Clinical Notice: The FR Kit is intended for use by trained dental surgeons and implantologists. Ensure the Fixture Remover Screw is fully seated prior to torque application to prevent instrument fracture. Do not exceed the maximum torque values specified for each FR and FRS combination.
