Clinical Insight

What clinicians are saying

Real-world feedback from implantologists using the Neobiotech SR Kit in their practices.

"A fractured abutment screw used to mean a long, anxious appointment โ€” trying not to damage the implant while working in a confined space with limited visibility. The SR Kit changed that completely. The Perfect Guide centres everything perfectly, the reverse drill creates the purchase point you need, and the screw remover does the rest. I've done cases in under five minutes that would have taken half an hour before."

Fractured Screw ยท Procedure Efficiency ยท Fixture Preservation

"The colour-coded system is the detail that makes this kit genuinely practical. In surgery, you don't want to be reading labels โ€” the colour immediately tells you which Claw or Reverse Drill matches the screw size you're working with. Everything is matched and ready in the tray. It's a well-thought-out system, not just a collection of instruments."

Indications

When to use the SR Kit

Designed for the safe retrieval of fractured implant screws across a broad range of clinical scenarios โ€” from minor abutment screw fractures to fully submerged, stuck screws in osseointegrated implants.

Fractured Abutment or Fixation Screws โ€” Removes fractured screws from any screw-retained restoration without damaging the implant body or requiring fixture repositioning.
Stuck or Seized Screws โ€” The ratchet-based Shank Driver and SR instrument combination allows controlled counter-rotation to release screws that cannot be removed by conventional means.
Multi-system Compatibility โ€” The SR Kit is capable of removing fractured screws from different implant systems โ€” not limited to Neobiotech implants โ€” provided the screw hole geometry is accessible.
Screw Sizes M1.6 to M2.5 โ€” Full coverage from narrow M1.6 screws (Claw only) through to M2.5 screws, using the appropriate Claw, Reverse Drill, and Screw Remover combination for each size.
Internal and External Connection Fixtures โ€” Internal and External Guide components are included for both connection types, with colour-coded guides matching specific hex or octagonal implant geometries.
Submerged or Partially Fractured Screws โ€” The Perfect Guide system ensures accurate centring for reverse drilling on screws with no exposed head โ€” eliminating the risk of eccentric drilling into the implant wall.

Technique Guide

Four-step removal protocol

A standardised sequence using the Perfect Guide for accurate centring, reverse drilling with copious irrigation to create a purchase point, and counter-rotation to retrieve the fractured screw.

1
Identify the fractured screw size and select the matching Perfect Guide. Match the Perfect Guide (PG) diameter to the reverse drill being used: RCD10 for ร˜1.0mm, RCD10/RCD12 for ร˜1.2mm, RCD12/RCD14 for ร˜1.4mm. The guide centres the drill precisely over the fractured screw head โ€” accurate centring at this step determines the success of everything that follows.
2
Tighten the Perfect Guide into the screw hole at 15 Ncm via the PG Hand Driver. The Perfect Guide must be firmly seated before drilling begins. Under-seating allows movement during reverse drilling and risks eccentric engagement with the implant wall.
3
Use the Reverse Drill at 2,000 rpm with copious irrigation. For M1.6 fractured screws, use the Claw by hand in reverse โ€” no Reverse Drill is applicable for this size. For M1.8 and above, use the Reverse Drill through the Perfect Guide at 2,000 rpm with copious water, until a purchase point approximately 1โ€“2 mm deep is created in the face of the fractured screw.
4
Engage the Screw Remover and rotate counterclockwise at or below 80 rpm. The Screw Remover's reverse thread engages the purchase point created by drilling. Rotate at no more than 80 rpm โ€” excessive speed reduces grip and risks stripping the purchase point before the screw releases. For stuck screws, use the Shank Driver with a ratchet for additional manual torque.

Kit Components

What's in the kit

The SR Kit includes all instruments required for fractured screw removal โ€” Claws, Screw Removers, Reverse Drills, Guides, and Drivers โ€” supplied in a colour-coded dedicated tray.

SR Kit component overview โ€” Claw, Screw Remover, Reverse Drill, Perfect Guide, Guides and Drivers

Claw

Removes fractured screws by connecting to the appropriate Guide and rotating by hand in the reverse direction via the Shank Driver. M1.6 screws must be removed using the Claw only โ€” Reverse Drill is not applicable for this size. For M1.8 and larger, the Claw may be attempted first; if unsuccessful, proceed to the Reverse Drill and Screw Remover sequence.

Fractured Screw Size
M1.6
M1.8
M2.0
M2.5

Screw Remover (SR)

Engages the purchase point created by the Reverse Drill and retrieves the fractured screw via counterclockwise rotation. Use at or below 80 rpm.

Fractured Screw Size Diameter
M1.8 ร˜1.0
M2.0 ร˜1.2
M2.5 ร˜1.4

Reverse Drill (RCD)

Creates a purchase point in the fractured screw surface. Used through the Perfect Guide at 2,000 rpm with copious irrigation. For M1.6, use the Claw instead.

Fractured Screw Size Diameter
M1.8 ร˜1.0
M2.0 ร˜1.2
M2.5 ร˜1.4

For M1.6 size screw, use the Claw only โ€” the Reverse Drill is not applicable for this screw size.

Clinical Tips

Getting the most from your SR Kit

Practical guidance for safe, predictable fractured screw retrieval.

1
For M1.6 screws, use the Claw only โ€” Reverse Drill is not applicable. Select the CD16 Claw, connect the appropriate Guide to the fixture, attach the Claw to the Shank Driver, and rotate by hand in the reverse direction to remove the fractured screw. If the screw cannot be removed by Claw alone, it must be removed using the Reverse Drill and Screw Remover โ€” however this combination is only available for M1.8 and larger. An M1.6 screw that cannot be removed by Claw requires escalation of clinical management.
2
Seat the Perfect Guide firmly at 15 Ncm before any drilling. The Perfect Guide's function is to centre the drill over the fractured screw โ€” any movement during the reverse drilling step transfers directly into eccentric engagement. Confirm firm seating via the PG Hand Driver with tactile resistance before proceeding.
3
Never exceed 80 rpm with the Screw Remover. The Screw Remover's reverse thread needs sustained, low-speed engagement to grip and lift the fractured fragment. High speed strips the purchase point without generating the torque needed for release. For stuck screws, switch to the Shank Driver with a ratchet for additional manual control.
4
Use copious irrigation during Reverse Drilling only โ€” not during Claw or Screw Remover steps. Irrigation is required when the Reverse Drill is in use at 2,000 rpm to prevent thermal damage to the implant and surrounding bone. Switch off irrigation before engaging the Screw Remover โ€” wet conditions reduce the frictional grip of the reverse thread on the fractured screw surface.
5
Match the guide type to the implant connection before surgery. The Internal Guide, External Guide, and Conical Guide are not interchangeable โ€” use the SR Driver Holder with the correct guide for the connection type being accessed. Confirm the implant system and connection geometry from records before opening the kit.
โš  Clinical Notice: The SR Kit is intended for use by trained dental surgeons and implantologists. Use the Reverse Drill at 2,000 rpm with copious irrigation only โ€” dry use risks thermal damage to the implant and surrounding bone. Do not use the Reverse Drill for M1.6 fractured screws; use the Claw (manual, reverse rotation) only. Do not exceed 80 rpm with the Screw Remover. The Reverse Drill is a single-use item and must not be reused. Follow AS/NZS sterilisation guidelines for all reusable instruments. Refer to the User Guide for full indications, contraindications, and handling instructions.
