Very Thin Residual Bone Height — Cases where residual bone height is insufficient for a reliable crestal approach — SLA Kit provides lateral window access to the sinus regardless of the amount of remaining alveolar bone.
Previous Crestal Membrane Rupture — Where a crestal sinus lift has resulted in membrane perforation, or where anatomical risk factors make crestal membrane tearing highly probable — the lateral approach allows controlled, direct-vision membrane elevation.

The SLA Kit instruments are designed to open the lateral sinus wall as close to the crest as possible, with a minimal flap — smaller than conventional lateral window technique. The LS-Reamer's sharp center point acts as its own guide and does not slip on the lateral wall, enabling a precise, upright drilling approach without needing a large surgical access area.

The LS-Reamer operates at 2,000 rpm on a standard surgical motor handpiece. Its tapered trunk geometry is designed to automatically control drilling depth up to 3.5mm without the need for a separate drill stop — both sides of the blade stay in contact with the lateral wall bone during drilling. A bone disk forms between the reamer and sinus membrane as the reamer fills with bone chips, providing a protective layer against membrane tearing.

LS-Reamer vs C-Reamer: Use LS-Reamer when artery bleeding risk, septum existence, or overlapping inferior cortical wall and cancellous bone layers are present — the lateral hole can be inspected through the drilling opening. Use C-Reamer when preserving the bone core disk for window coverage is preferred. Both reamers operate without a drill stop; depth is controlled by the tapered trunk geometry (maximum 3.5mm).

Getting the most from the SLA Kit

Practical guidance for safe, controlled lateral window sinus elevation with the SLA Kit.

Choose LS-Reamer or C-Reamer deliberately — before you start drilling. Use the LS-Reamer when visibility into the sinus during drilling is the priority (artery identification, septum cases, overlapping bone layers), or when bone core disk recovery is not required. Use C-Reamer when the goal is to harvest an intact circular bone disk from the lateral wall for use as a natural window cover before suturing. Once drilling begins, switching reamer type mid-procedure is difficult — decide based on the CT and pre-operative assessment.

Position the lateral window as anterior and inferior as possible. A more crestal, anterior lateral hole position reduces membrane tearing risk during elevation and gives the elevators better mechanical access to the sinus floor. When the residual alveolar bone has at least 1mm of inferior cortical wall, position the hole to engage this layer for structural support during the drilling approach.

Use copious irrigation throughout all drilling steps — without exception. The LS-Reamer and C-Reamer operate at 2,000 rpm, and the four side holes on the C-Reamer are specifically designed to maintain irrigation flow to prevent overheating of the lateral wall bone during drilling. Insufficient irrigation increases the risk of bone necrosis at the window site and reduces bone disk vitality.

When wall thickness exceeds 3.5mm, use C-Reamer first — then LS-Reamer. The SLA Kit reamers are designed for a maximum 3.5mm drilling depth. If CT shows lateral wall thickness greater than 3.5mm, use C-Reamer Ø7.5 first to remove a 2–3mm bone core disk by chisel or periosteal elevator lever action. Then use LS-Reamer Ø5.5 to complete the perforation through the remaining wall. Never attempt to drill the full thickness in one pass with the LS-Reamer alone beyond its designed depth.

Use the three elevators in sequence — not interchangeably. Elevator #1 (SLE05) initiates mesial-distal membrane detachment — the starting point that creates the plane for subsequent instruments. Elevator #2 (SLE02) addresses the inferior area with its L-shaped end, then the sinus floor, medial wall, and posterior wall with its reverse end. Elevator #3 (SLE03) reaches the deepest, most posterior membrane attachments. Skipping the sequence or using Elevator #3 first increases membrane perforation risk.
⚠ Clinical Notice: The SLA Kit is a non-sterile medical device intended for use by dental surgeons who have completed implant procedure training. The kit must be sterilised by steam autoclave before and after each procedure. Hydrogen peroxide is prohibited for cleaning — it damages the TIN coating and laser markings. Do not use in patients with uncontrolled systemic disease, active infection, malignancy under radiation treatment, blood clotting disorders, titanium allergy, or unrealistic treatment expectations.
